Color is the muse and subject matter for my oil paintings. I employ the structure of the grid for its all-over composition. One by one, side by side, thousands of hand-painted translucent ovals fill out a painting's six overlapping layers. Each series or show of work differs by their individual color sequence and combination.
My goal in painting is to create a unique illusion of space; one that 'feels' fluid with depth. I set out ten years ago to define the function of painted space: what a painting can be, and what a painting should be. Among other things, it should be self-reflexive, inherently aware of its own history. It should be a new space, one that has never been seen before. But most importantly, it should be visually interesting...it should be about seeing, not about reading.
